What’s up
people~ If I had to say what things I
feel most passionate about, I would most surely choose illustration,
storytelling, and music. But as I talked about the first a couple of weeks ago
already, It’s music time now. It’s not the perspective of a musician, since I
know almost nothing about theory or practical execution, but the one of the
avid consumer instead.
It’s not
something I’ve been into all my life tho. I recall having no interest on it
till I was 12 or so. I just had a couple of popular songs of the season on my
mp3 and what was in the radio. I started actively searching for and listening
to music after my step-brother gave me some songs of a couple of heavy metal
bands as a recommendation. I really liked them, so I started researching on my
own.
I started
to spend more and more time searching for things that amazed me. Of course I
got stuck on the childish “I only listen to this genre because it’s the best
music” mentality at some point, but now I just don’t care about it. Sure, I
have my favorites but I’ll be into anything if I enjoy it.
And what keeps
surprising me and making me enjoy music more and differently is the infinite amount
of styles, sounds and combinations possible. From the beauty on the creativity
of experimental music, the extraordinary composition and execution of a talented
musician, to just the poetry of the lyrics, all are things that really
captivate me, and serve as one of the biggest inspirations for other things I
do, like drawing and writing.
To this day
still give me chills finding artists that get that exact mix of sheer heaviness
and beautiful melodies of the more melodic branches of extreme metal I love,
for example, and sincerely I hope that never changes, not for that, not for
music at all, not for art, so I can keep enjoying all those things some more~
